How to go viral on Instagram and youtube in 2024

We had the pleasure of chatting with Jennifer, @jennifer_oluko, a rockstar mom of 3 who's killing it as a content creator. We talked about her journey, challenges, and advice for newbies, all in a casual, chatty way.

What we love about Jenny’s content is that she gives us different types of quality content including her famous vlog, cooking videos, fashion and beauty content.

The secret to Jennifer’s success as a creator lies in the overall quality of her content and the interesting way she tells her story but… one content in particular helped her go viral. Do you want to find out what it was?

Let’s dive into her story

First things first, Jenny, how do you manage to create so much good content across different platforms while raising three kids?

"It's definitely a lot of work, but I love it! Creating content brings me joy, and that passion keeps me motivated. I also want to show moms that you can build a successful career in content creation while raising a family."

Speaking of building, you've grown your YouTube audience from 1500 subscribers to over 14,000 subscribers in just 2 years and your Instagram to over 21,000 followers in 1 year! What is your secret?

"I started taking content creation seriously two years ago with YouTube and then added Instagram last year. Last year, I saw amazing growth on YouTube, jumping from 1,500 subscribers to over 14,000 subscribers.

On Instagram, I got really active last year (in 2022) and have grown to over 21,000 followers so far. It’s not easy, I have put a lot of effort into creating great content and it is paying off"

Was there a specific type of content or anything in particular that made you blow up?

"My 'Jobless Housewife' vlog content really took off on YouTube. It went viral very fast and my channel just took off. So I took the series to Instagram and it also went viral there which helped me grow to 15,000 followers in one year.

The jobless housewife is created for fun but It still generated some backlash from people that think I am promoting joblessness. I have gotten lots of nasty comments but I don't mind it because those who get it, get it!"

What new platforms are you considering venturing into?

"TikTok might be next! It's a fast-paced platform with constantly changing trends, but I'm excited to explore it next year."

Looking back, would you do anything differently?

"Honestly, no. Every step in my content creation journey has taught me valuable lessons. I'm constantly learning and growing, but the only regret I have is not starting earlier!"

Content creation comes with rewards, right? Tell us about your first paid gig.

"Absolutely! I landed my first paid collaboration with less than 5k followers on Instagram, which completely changed my perspective. It made me realize that brands care more about your engaged community than just follower numbers.

I started creating content just because I love doing it but getting paid to create feels really good! It’s just a special feeling to get paid to be myself, live my life and do what I love”

Being a creator isn't all sunshine and roses. What challenges do you face?

"There's definitely negativity on social media, with people leaving insensitive comments. But I've developed a thick skin and learned to ignore it. Another challenge is dealing with difficult brands who undervalue creators and their work."

Have you ever compromised your pricing for a brand you love?

"It depends. If they seem genuine and offer a thoughtful package, I might consider it. But I've learned my lesson from brands that take advantage of creators. Ultimately, if you love a brand and truly believe in their products, then negotiating slightly might be worth it."

What advice would you give to aspiring content creators?

  1. Start now! Don't wait - I wish I had years ago.

  2. Focus on building a community first. Don't just chase money. It takes time and self-motivation.

  3. Invest in quality content. Get good equipment and lighting to enhance your videos.

  4. Learn basic editing skills. Don't just post anything raw.

  5. Educate yourself. There are endless resources online and other creators to learn from.

  6. Plan and manage your time. Create a schedule for different content types.

  7. Don't be afraid to go with the flow sometimes.

How do you manage your time and schedule?

“I have days scheduled for different types of content. I would typically plan ahead for vlogs and create a structure for how I want it to play out (example: how I want the vlog to start and how I want it to end) Sometimes, I also just go with the flow - it depends.

As a beginner, I’ll advise that you schedule your content and plan how you want it to go so that you don’t get overwhelmed and confused. You want to make sure that the flow of your content makes sense, the content is rich and the story is great”.

Now lastly, what are your favorite tools for content creation?

"I keep it simple. My phone, camera, tripod, CapCut for editing, good WiFi, and plenty of light are my essential ingredients."

Jennifer’s story is very interesting because from the outside, it looks like she was just lucky to have grown so fast in such a short time but after speaking with Jennifer and hearing her talk about how she plans, prepares and puts effort into each content - making sure it maintains visual and content quality, we know it’s no luck. It is thanks to good preparation meeting the right opportunity.

We think that you should check Jennifer out and enjoy her content as we do
